Summer break has been officially declared by the Punjab government for public as well as private schools and colleges, which will begin on 1st of June 2025 and end on 9th of August 2025, as claimed by Punjab Secretary Schools Education Khalid Nazir Wattoo, as reported by 24NewsHD TV.
Wattoo further said that the schedule could be changed in the light of higher temperatures in the coming days.
“If heat level rises abnormally high, the vacations can start a week ahead,” he said, stressing that student and staff well-being is still the top priority of the department, he said.
All arrangements for the vacation period have been put in place by the Schools Education Department. The announcement is timely against the backdrop of mounting concern by experts that climate change and long stretches of heatwaves are affecting education, health, and the economy.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) had also issued precautionary guidelines for schools to follow before deciding on closure. These include:
-
Enhancement in ventilation of classrooms
-
Fans and cooling systems should work properly
-
First-aid counters established with staff to handle heat emergency cases
